The Institute of Pathogen Biology (IPB) is one of the institutes under the flagship of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College (CAMS&PUMC). IPB was founded in May 2006, with a clear mission in conducting high quality research in basic as well as applied studies in biology of important human pathogens. The ultimate goal is to advance our knowledge and technology for better diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of the infectious diseases.

Strategies and Goals

Use of multi-disciplinary approaches is our primary strategy to study the biology of important human pathogens to seek fundamental knowledge. The application of the novel knowledge involves development of new technologies for improvement of the nation's capability to diagnose, treat and prevent infectious diseases.

The goals of the institute are:
to expand the knowledge base in pathogen biology in order to provide scientific supports to the prevention and control of infectious diseases;
to foster and maintain scientific human and physical resources that will ensure the nation's capability to combat infectious diseases; and
to exemplify and promote the scientific integrity and social responsibility of the state-of-the-art research institute in China.
